Big River

Our long drive to the Effigy Mounds took us alongside the Mississippi River. Can you see the bridge in the distance? It connects Marquette, Iowa with Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. We don't trust bridges in this part of the country anymore, so we didn't cross it, even though Prairie du Chien has a Cabela's.

Note the houses on the island in the middle of the river. Would you build your house there?

And just in case you haven't seen enough of us recently, here we are again. Sorry for the close-up but nobody was around to take our picture.

Those people are crazy to build their houses there! It's really pretty, but my home would be worth more to me than that! Oh, and you guys look lovely!

I would have thought you would have taken any risk to get to a Cabela's store!

Around Nauvoo they have elevated mobile homes built on stilts to withstand the 150-year flood. Wait, mobile homes...doesn't that mean they can just pull them onto higher ground when the flood hits? Isn't that the mobile part of mobile home?
