Today we visited Effigy Mounds National Monument located in northeast Iowa.
These organized mounds of earth were created by Woodland Indians dating back 2500 years.
The mounds were built at various times and places in the Americas and they come in several sizes and shapes including animals, such as birds and bears.
Conical mounds like these are among the oldest.

Those don't like birds or bears to me. And how do they know they were made 2500 years ago? Did the "birds" tell them?
